Shining a Light on Trafficking in Glasgow

At Restore Glasgow, we are excited to share some updates on our ongoing mission to fight human trafficking in our city. Our newest team member, Angela Maxfield, who joined as our Development Manager in June, has been making strides in both connecting with members and expanding our outreach. As she settles into her role, Angela has been busy researching Scottish law and the complex situation surrounding trafficking across the country. Her efforts are laying the groundwork for our next steps in addressing this hidden crisis.

Trafficking in Scotland: A Stark Reality

Did you know that trafficking has been identified in every single local authority area in Scotland? This sobering statistic highlights the pervasiveness of this crime, which doesn’t just happen in far-flung corners of the world, but right here in our communities. Glasgow, in particular, has high levels of identified—and still hidden—victims. While much of this issue remains under the surface, it’s clear that no part of Scotland is untouched by trafficking, and it is our commitment to raise awareness and equip people with the knowledge to help tackle this crisis.

Spot the Signs Training

One of the ways we’re responding is through our Spot the Signs Training, which aims to educate individuals and organisations on how to recognise the signs of trafficking in their area. We recently hosted a training evening for some new and existing Restore supporters (see photo below!), empowering them with vital information on how to spot red flags, report concerns, and direct those affected to avenues of support.

If you’re interested in attending one of these training sessions, please get in touch. We believe that the more eyes and ears that are tuned into the signs of trafficking, the better chance we have of disrupting these networks and bringing hope to those who are trapped in exploitation.

Growing Our Community

Beyond training and education, we’ve been gathering monthly as a community to pray, reflect, and plan our next steps in this fight. We’re encouraged to see our prayer group growing in size, with more people feeling called to support this cause. If you’d like to join us in prayer or support our work in other ways, please let us know. We’d love to welcome you into the Restore family 🥰

How You Can Help

As we look ahead, we know that the journey to end human trafficking in Scotland is long and challenging. But with your help—whether through training, prayer, or simply raising awareness—we believe we can make a real difference.

Here are some ways you can support our work:

  • Request our Spot the Signs Training to learn how to identify trafficking in your community.
  • Join us – become a member, come along to our monthly prayer meeting, sign up for our newsletter.
  • Spread the word about the realities of trafficking in Scotland to friends, colleagues, and family.
  • Donations and fundraising – every contribution helps us to reach more people, provide more training, and offer greater support to partner organisations who work directly with survivors. If you have creative ideas for fundraising or would like to donate to support us, we’d love to hear from you!

Together, we can bring light to the hidden and hope to the oppressed. We’re grateful for every person who joins us in this crucial work 🙏

Let’s keep moving forward, united in our mission to restore dignity and freedom to all.
